Kalang & Bellinger Rivers – Pet Friendly (2day/44km)

IMG_0055

Kalang & Bellinger Rivers, NSW, Australia: Situated on the stunning Mid North Coast of NSW, the two rivers Kalang and Bellinger, flow into the ocean at the town of Urunga.
As a fun, family and pet-friendly paddle, this trip was designed to be a weekend getaway. With Mark (dad), Mother SUPer (Mum), Sandy Nixon (pet dog) and myself, we set off for our overnight paddle along the Kalang and Bellinger Rivers.

An extra mode of transport was added to this journey in the form of a fold up bicycle, solving the dilemma of retrieving our car from the starting point. Mother SUPer had carefully considered all options and the bicycle was by far the best way to reach our car, 8km from the end point.

*Make sure to read Trip Preparation before commencing any journey as it contains valuable information about planning your paddle

NOTES
• The paddle on the first day is fairly long, but plan correctly with the wind and the tide and it is a fantastic experience.
• Stop for lunch at the Anchors Wharf Cafe & Restaurant located under the bridge at Urunga. Cafe closes at 2pm, we made it there for 12:30pm.
• We started paddling at Brierfield at 7:30am to allow plenty of time to reach the cafe for lunch.

• Repton to Bellingen

DISTANCE
• 16km / 10miles

ACCESS SITES
• Boat Ramp / Stairs, Bellinger River Tourist Park
• Sandy / rocky beach under bridge, Bellingen

NOTES
• Beautiful paddle up the river from Repton. Passing farmlands, the river narrows to create an amazing experience paddling upstream through scenic surrounds.
• The Bellingen Shire is one of the most spectacular areas for natural beauty.
• There are 2 shallows sections of the river located very close to Bellingen. We had to portage over 20metres of cobble stones,  so pack some water shoes to walk your gear over the rocks.
• Look out for more adventures and photos from Mother SUPer with the use of her Brompton fold up bicycle.
